Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi (SCAD) commissioned us to create two films showcasing their work, recent achievements and the role data plays in shaping life across Abu Dhabi.
Combining 2D and 3D motion graphics, we transformed statistics, information and complex ideas into a clear and engaging visual story. The films move between data-driven graphics and more conceptual scenes, helping explain not only what SCAD does, but why its work matters.
Rather than presenting statistics in isolation, we connected the data to its real-world impact, showing how better information supports decision-making, government services and ultimately the people and communities of Abu Dhabi.
The Style
Given the complexity of the information, we needed a style that conveyed all the details while engaging a diverse audience. We also wanted to explore a cohesive visual style that merged statistical data with geometric shapes.
We came up with an approach that involved combining 2D and 3D animation, using icons, shapes, and text aligned with the brand identity to ensure the visuals remained dynamic and contemporary.
From Animatic to Animation
Our proven methodology guided us through the challenging stages of creating a complex video for a first-time client. Once we identified a style that satisfied both our creative team and the SCAD team, we developed a storyboard to visualize each scene. Additionally, we produced an animatic to pair the voiceover script with static visuals.
Upon approval, we moved to the illustration phase and then proceeded to animation. Throughout each stage, the visuals underwent feedback and continuous refinement.
The Results
The video was unveiled as part of the brand launch, garnering significant publicity and acclaim before its release to the general public on social media. It continues to be used by SCAD to showcase their various achievements.
